Researching what advances development

Innovation for shuttle systems

The aim was to develop an innovative controller for shuttle systems for storage and retrieval as well as for transporting containers in shuttle storage systems. A simulation of the shuttle status as well as a new type of data communication was researched.

A shuttle system developed by Vienco contains several drive units which are operated via digital state controllers. Due to the selected controller design, the system has mathematical models available (example Luenberger observer or Kalman filter), which provide simultaneous  information about the status of the system. This allows system states to be calculated simultaneously to the real process sequence on (cloud) servers, which are correlated and evaluated with the actual states of the drive units. If there are significant differences, correction parameters or controller adjustments (adaptive algorithms) can be made automatically. In addition, such modeling can also be used as a basis for preventive maintenance. Communication based on the PowerLAN industry standard of the NRZ (Non-Return-to-Zero) protocol was used.
